Star Rail is the closest a mobile game has come to a real RPG story. HoYoverse took everything they learned from Genshin, world-building, character writing, cinematic presentation, and removed the open-world padding. What's left is a game that moves. Chapters end. Stakes rise. Characters die (or close enough).
The writing is dense in the best way: philosophical concepts framed through characters you actually like, delivered in cutscenes that hold their own against console RPGs. The Penacony arc alone is better than most games' entire narratives.
